Champaign Police are investigating two separate overnight shootings that occurred between November 16 and 17, 2025. One incident resulted in a homicide, while the other left a resident hospitalized with injuries. Investigators report that there is currently no indication the incidents are related.
The first incident took place on the 3700 block of Colleen Drive at approximately 6:04 p.m. on November 16. Officers responded to a report of a shooting with injuries and found a 24-year-old Champaign man suffering from multiple life-threatening wounds. Police and medical personnel provided emergency care before transporting the victim to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. According to investigators, the man was shot after leaving his apartment.
The second shooting occurred around 2:35 a.m. on November 17 in the 700 block of N. Elm Street. Officers discovered a resident with serious leg injuries after responding to another report of gunfire. Medical assistance was given at the scene before the individual was taken to an area hospital; they remain in stable condition. The initial investigation suggests that the victim was shot after answering a late-night knock at their door.
Police continue to canvass both areas for witnesses and video footage that could aid their investigations. Authorities urge any residents or businesses nearby with exterior surveillance cameras to contact them.
No arrests have been made in connection with either incident, and both investigations remain active.
