Illinois falls to #11 Wisconsin in annual Stuff Huff volleyball contest

Illinois lost to #11 Wisconsin in a volleyball match on Saturday night during the annual Stuff Huff contest in Champaign. The Illini's Ashlyn Philpot led the team with 10 kills and a .615 hitting percentage, also recording two blocks, one of which was solo.

Alyssa Aguayo contributed nine kills, eight digs, two assists, an ace, and a block. Auburn Tomkinson added seven kills along with three digs and two blocks. Taylor de Boer finished with seven kills, an assist, and a dig while Averie Hernandez had five kills and five digs.

Kenna Phelan provided 35 assists for Illinois in addition to nine digs and an ace. Taryn Kirsch led the team defensively with 10 digs.

The first set ended 35-33 in favor of Wisconsin, marking the longest set played by Illinois this season. Head coach Chris Tamas now holds a record of 162-106 during his tenure at Illinois. The all-time series between Illinois and Wisconsin stands at 49-51-1 following this match.

Illinois has an even record of 6-6 in three-set matches this season and is now 4-6 when playing at Huff Hall. The team has worn white long-sleeved jerseys four times this year with one win and three losses. Attendance for the match was reported as 3,554.

Next week, Illinois (13-12 overall; 8-8 Big Ten) will travel to the West Coast for its final two road matches of the regular season. They are scheduled to play UCLA on Thursday at 9 p.m. Central Time on FS1 before facing #17 USC on Saturday at 6 p.m. Central Time on B1G+.
