Illini women’s basketball falls short against Oregon State for first loss of season

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini women's basketball team experienced its first defeat of the season with a 64-59 loss to Oregon State in Corvallis, Oregon. The game was closely contested, featuring four ties and eight lead changes.

Berry Wallace led Illinois with 24 points, marking her third consecutive game scoring at least 20 points. She also contributed six rebounds—five on the offensive end—and two steals, while making all six of her free throw attempts. "Wallace scored 20 second-half points while playing the full 20 minutes," according to the team's report.

Cearah Parchment posted a career-high 14 points, including four three-pointers, and added six rebounds. Gretchen Dolan finished with 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Destiny Jackson and Aaliyah Guyton each chipped in five points; Guyton recorded her first points as an Illini during the match.

Illinois made a season-high eight three-pointers on 19 attempts (42 percent), outperforming their overall field goal percentage (34 percent). The team held a slight rebounding edge over Oregon State at 31-30 and dominated on the offensive glass with a 14-5 advantage that resulted in nine second-chance points compared to Oregon State's two.

After trailing by one point at halftime (28-29), Illinois took brief leads in the third quarter but was unable to maintain momentum as Oregon State used several scoring runs to secure victory. The Illini closed out strong but could not overcome the deficit despite scoring five points in the final seconds.

Head coach Shauna Green's record at Illinois now stands at 65-36 overall and 30-24 in Big Ten play. This matchup marked Green's second contest against Oregon State as head coach, bringing her record against them to 1-1.

Illinois is scheduled to return home for its next game against Murray State on Tuesday, November 18.
