Illinois loses to Washington 2-0 in Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals

Illinois was defeated by Washington 2-0 in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal match held at Folk Field in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Sunday. Illinois entered the game as the ninth seed with a record of 13-5-2, while Washington was the top seed at 12-2-5.

Washington's Samiah Shell scored in the eighth minute to give her team an early lead. Later in the first half, Alex Buck added a second goal for Washington in the 39th minute.

Illinois goalkeeper Izzy Lee recorded five saves during the match, increasing her single-season program record to 118 saves. Illinois had six shots compared to Washington’s twelve and trailed 7-3 in shots on target.

The Fighting Illini now await word on whether they will be selected for participation in the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is scheduled for Monday, November 10.
