Jake Birdwell , Golfer | University of Illinois Fighting Illini Men's Golf
Fighting Illini golfers Jake Birdwell and Ethan Wilson each achieved top-20 finishes at the Dayton Flyer Invitational, held at NCR Country Club's South Course in Kettering, Ohio. Both athletes competed as individuals in a field of 82 players.
Birdwell secured 11th place after rounds of 75, 67, and 73, finishing with a total score of 215 (+2). His second round score of 4-under 67 was just one stroke short of his career-low round, which he set the previous week at the Morain Intercollegiate in Kettering. This marks Birdwell's best finish this season and is his fifth career top-15 result.
Ethan Wilson tied for 20th place with a three-round total of 220 (+7), posting scores of 72 and 73 on Monday and concluding with a 75 on Tuesday. This is Wilson's best finish so far this season and his seventh career top-20 placement as an Illini.
The team will next compete when their spring schedule begins at the Hal Williams Collegiate in Mobile, Alabama, scheduled for February 16-17.
