Illinois men's golf moves to fourth after strong second round at Fallen Oak

The University of Illinois men's golf team improved its standing at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, moving up three spots to fourth place after posting a 9-under-par 279 in the second round at Fallen Oak at Beau Rivage Resort in Saucier, Mississippi.

Four Illinois golfers finished under par in the second round. Juniors Max Herendeen and Dane Huddleston each shot 3-under rounds. Herendeen recorded his second consecutive 69 and is now in fifth place overall, four shots behind the leader, Matthew Dodd-Barry of LSU.

Huddleston made the largest jump for Illinois on Sunday, climbing nine positions into a tie for 11th. He made four birdies, including two on holes 16 and 18, and is now at 4-under par going into the final round.

Sophomore Freddie Turnell also had a strong finish. After starting 2-over through three holes, he played the next fifteen holes at 4-under par with birdies on holes 15, 16, and 18. Turnell moved up eight places to tie for 20th at 2-under.

Sophomore Trey Marrion followed his opening round even-par score with a second-round 71. He sits tied for 26th at one stroke under par. Senior Ryan Voois improved by one stroke from his first round to shoot an even-par 72 and is tied for 42nd at one over par.

Freshman Dujuan Snyman is competing as an individual and is tied for 64th after shooting a combined five over par through two rounds.

Louisiana State University leads the team competition at 27-under par, eight strokes ahead of second-place Arkansas. Alabama is third at minus-16, just ahead of Illinois. Ole Miss rounds out the top five teams.

Illinois will be paired with Ole Miss and Tennessee in Monday's final round. Tee times begin at 8:50 a.m. Central Time. Live scoring can be followed via Clippd Scoreboard.
