Taylor de Boer named Scholar Athlete of the Week after leading Illinois volleyball to two Big Ten wins

Illinois volleyball player Taylor de Boer has been named Scholar Athlete of the Week for her performance during October 6-12, 2025. De Boer, a redshirt sophomore majoring in recreation, sport, and tourism, recently received the AthletesCAN True Sport Award at the 2025 Canadian Sport Awards.

During this period, de Boer helped lead the Illinois Fighting Illini to two Big Ten road victories. On Friday, Illinois defeated Maryland in four sets at Schanwald Pavilion, improving to a 4-1 record in Big Ten play. De Boer recorded 11 kills, marking her fifth match in Big Ten action with double-digit kills. She also contributed two digs and a solo block.

The following day, Illinois secured a sweep against Rutgers at Jersey Mike's Arena, advancing to a 5-1 conference record, which is their best start since 2011. De Boer led the team with 16 kills, achieving her sixth consecutive match with double-digit kills and hitting at a .379 percentage. She also added two blocks in the match.

"Taylor de Boer, who was recently recognized at the 2025 Canadian Sport Awards as this year's recipient of the AthletesCAN True Sport Award, led the Illini to a pair of Big Ten road wins over Maryland and Rutgers," the announcement stated.

De Boer continues her academic pursuits in recreation, sport, and tourism while contributing significantly to her team's success.
