Illini women's golf holds second after first day at Medinah Invitational

Illinois women's golf team is in second place after the first day of the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah Country Club, recording a team total of 558 (-18). The team's performance included a first-round score of 277 (-11) and a second-round score of 281 (-7). These results place Illinois among the top four teams for par 3s and 4s, and first in par 5s. The team also leads in eagles, is in the top five for birdies, and ranks sixth in pars. Their opening round score matches their lowest mark of the season.

Anna Ritter led Illinois with a career-low-tying round of 67 (-5) followed by a 71 (-1), placing her tied for third overall going into the final day. She is currently among the leaders in par 4s, par 5s, and total pars.

Freshman Alexis Myers posted rounds of 73 (+1) and a career-low-tying 67 (-5), making it her third round at that score this season. Myers is currently tied for eleventh and is noted as the only player to record multiple eagles during the tournament so far.

Brielle Mapanao and Victoria Zheng are both tied for twentieth place after two rounds. Mapanao recorded scores of 70 (-2) and 72 (E), including an eagle on hole four. Zheng had consecutive rounds of 71 (-1) and ranks second in total pars.

Erica Lee started with a strong opening round of 69 (-3), followed by a second round of 75 (+3), tying her for thirty-ninth place.

Individually, Sofia Vargas achieved a career-low round of 67 (-5) before shooting a second-round score of 78 (+6). She is tied for forty-eighth place.

Tavia Burgess had consistent rounds with scores of 73 (+1) each time, placing her tied for fifty-first. Kylie Eaton improved from an opening round of 80 (+8) to shoot a second-round score of 74 (+2), tying her for eighty-first position. Sophia Sulkar shot rounds of 81 (+9) and then an eighty-three (+11), placing her in eighty-fifth.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the third and final round beginning at 9 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
