Jackson’s late goal lifts Illinois over Maryland in women’s soccer

Illinois women's soccer secured a 2-1 victory over Maryland on Sunday at Ludwig Field, improving their season record to 10-2-1 and 3-2-1 in Big Ten play.

Maryland took an early lead with a goal in the 10th minute, holding the advantage into halftime. Illinois responded quickly after the break, with Emma Yee scoring the equalizer in the 46th minute off an assist from Sarah Foley. This marked Yee's sixth goal of the season, tying her with Foley for most goals on the team.

Cayla Jackson scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute, her fifth of the season and second game-winner. Illinois goalkeeper Izzy Lee recorded five saves during the match. The Illini outshot Maryland, posting a season-high 23 shots with 11 on target, while Maryland had 10 shots and six on goal.

Illinois will next face Rutgers at Demirjian Park on Thursday, October 9, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Central Time.
