The first set saw both teams trading points early before Wisconsin went on a 4-0 run to take a 13-9 lead. After an Illinois timeout, the Illini briefly gained a one-point advantage but were overtaken as Wisconsin closed out the set with an 11-point run for a 25-15 win.
In the second set, Wisconsin used another early run to establish control. Although Illinois tied the score at six apiece, Wisconsin responded with nine unanswered points. The Illini managed to reduce the deficit through a five-point run that included three kills from de Boer but ultimately lost the set 25-17.
