Illinois women’s golf stands seventh after opening day at Windy City Collegiate Classic

Illinois women’s golf team finished the first day of the Windy City Collegiate Classic in seventh place, recording a team score of 576 (even par) at Glen View Club. The Illini posted a 289 (+1) in the opening round and improved to 287 (-1) in the second round. The team led all competitors in total pars with 127 and ranked among the top four teams on both par three and par five holes.

Brielle Mapanao led Illinois, posting her first under-par rounds of the season with consecutive scores of 71 (-1). She has now been the top performer for Illinois in four rounds this season and is tied for 12th going into the final day.

Victoria Zheng followed closely, shooting an even-par 72 in round one and a 71 (-1) in round two. Zheng is tied for first among all players in pars made and has recorded the fewest bogeys so far. She stands tied for 16th, just one stroke behind Mapanao.

Alexis Myers continued her consistent play with back-to-back rounds of even-par 72, placing her tied for 20th after two rounds.

Anna Ritter recorded a first-round score of 74 (+2) followed by a second-round score of 73 (+1), tying her for 36th position.

Erica Lee finished with scores of 76 (+4) and 75 (+3), leaving her tied for 51st after day one.

The Illini will compete in the third and final round tomorrow, which will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT.
