Champaign Police request public help following bank robbery on South Neil Street

Champaign Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred at 11:09 a.m. on September 24, 2025, in the 1000 block of S. Neil Street. According to police, a suspect entered the bank, damaged security glass, and demanded money while threatening staff. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries were reported and there is no evidence that a gun was displayed or used during the incident.

Police officers searched the area after the robbery and continue to look for witnesses and video footage that could assist in their investigation. Residents or businesses with exterior surveillance cameras near the scene are asked to contact the police department. No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation remains open.

Champaign Police stated, "Champaign Police ask that anyone who has additional information please call 217-351-4545. Arrangements can be made for information to be shared privately. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may also submit tips to Crime Stoppers by phone at: 217-373-8477 (TIPS); online at 373tips.com; or the 'P3 Tips' mobile app. Champaign Police wish to thank the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, University of Illinois Police, and Illinois State Police for their assistance in this investigation."

The department reminded community members about the anonymity of Crime Stoppers tips: "The community is reminded that information submitted to Crime Stoppers is completely anonymous. Calls are routed to a third-party national call center that receives your information, completes a tips information form, and then passes the information to the appropriate law enforcement agency. Caller ID tracking is not utilized by Crime Stoppers and conversations are not recorded."

Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for tips leading to arrests in various cases, including up to $1,000 for tips resulting in an arrest related to other crimes.
