Illini women’s golf ties for fifth to open season at Wolverine Invitational

Illinois women’s golf began its 2025-26 season with a tie for fifth place at the Wolverine Invitational, held at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor. The team finished with a total score of 880 (+28) over three rounds.

The Illini recorded rounds of 295 (+11), 292 (+8), and 293 (+9). As a group, they tallied 29 birdies and one eagle while making par on 173 holes during the event.

Anna Ritter led Illinois, tying for seventh place individually with a tournament score of 217 (+4). “Ritter shot a 217 (+4) on the tournament.” Her performance marked her third-best finish as an Illini and was her fifth career top-10 result.

Alexis Myers made her debut for Illinois, finishing tied for 11th after shooting a final-round score of 72 (+1) and ending with a total of 219 (+6).

Brielle Mapanao finished tied for 14th at 220 (+7), posting a final round of 75 (+4). This was Mapanao’s second-best individual finish since joining Illinois.

Erica Lee and Victoria Zheng both concluded the event tied for 48th, each with scores of 229 (+16). Lee posted an 80 (+9) in her last round, while Zheng carded a final-round score of 75 (+4).

Competing as an individual, Tavia Burgess finished in 70th place after recording rounds of 80, 78, and another 78 to close at 236 (+23).

Kent State won the team title with a total score of +17 (869). Pimkwan Chookaew from Iowa State earned medalist honors by finishing five-under-par (208).

The Fighting Illini will compete next at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin on September 14.
