The University of Illinois Fighting Illini baseball team has received the 2024-25 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, marking the sixth consecutive year the program has been recognized for its academic performance.

Illinois posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.54 during the 2024-25 academic year. Fourteen student-athletes earned Academic All-Big Ten honors, and six were named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars. Payton Hutchings, Aden O'Donnell, and Drake Westcott each achieved a 4.0 GPA for the year.

This award is presented by Sports Attack and recognizes high school and college baseball teams that meet specific criteria: being a high school or college team, having a head coach who is an active member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), and maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the academic year.

More than 440 college programs and over 300 high school programs nationwide were honored this year for their academic achievements.

The ABCA has recognized achievements in baseball since its founding in 1949, including awards such as the ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams, ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, Regional & National Coaches of the Year, and others.

Sports Attack, based in Reno, Nevada since 1995, manufactures sports training equipment and sponsors the award. The company emphasizes quality manufacturing practices and ethical business standards. More information about Sports Attack can be found at https://sportsattack.com/.
