The University of Illinois Fighting Illini football team has announced six captains for the 2025 season. The captains, selected by a team vote, are quarterback Luke Altmyer, tight end Tanner Arkin, outside linebacker Gabe Jacas, center Josh Kreutz, linebacker Dylan Rosiek, and defensive back Miles Scott.

Luke Altmyer will be a captain for the first time in his career. Last season, he passed for 2,717 yards and 22 touchdowns. He led Illinois to its first 10-win season since 2001.

Tanner Arkin was chosen as a captain for the second straight year. He is on the Mackey Award watch list and enters his senior year with five touchdowns over two seasons at Illinois.

Gabe Jacas will also serve as a captain for the first time. The senior is recognized as a preseason All-American by several outlets and is considered one of college football’s top returning defenders.

Josh Kreutz returns as a captain for his second consecutive season. As the starting center, he anchors the offensive line and has earned All-Big Ten honors in each of the past two years.

Dylan Rosiek was named captain again after being selected last year. He has been an All-Big Ten selection twice and will start his third season at middle linebacker.

Miles Scott rounds out the group of captains with his second consecutive selection. Over two seasons as starting free safety, he has made 118 tackles, intercepted two passes, and scored two touchdowns.

According to recent records, this announcement comes after Illinois achieved its best season in more than two decades by winning ten games in 2024 (https://fightingillini.com/news/2024/12/31/football-illinois-earns-first-10-win-season-since-2001).
