Illinois track and field signee Luuk Pelkmans secured a silver medal in the decathlon at the European Athletics U20 Championships held in Tampere, Finland. Pelkmans achieved a score of 8,293 points, setting a new Dutch U20 record. The event was won by Hubert Troscianka, who posted a U20 world record score of 8,514 points.
Pelkmans’ performance is now the fourth-highest all-time for a U20 decathlete. This result surpasses his previous personal best of 8,016 points set earlier this summer during the Netherlands U20 Championships, marking an improvement of over 200 points within two months.
