University of Illinois head baseball coach Dan Hartleb has been appointed to the coaching staff for USA Baseball's 2025 Collegiate National Team Training Camp. This marks his fifth assignment with USA Baseball, having previously contributed to the coaching staff for various national team development programs and teams since 2014.
Hartleb, who recently concluded his 20th season as head coach at Illinois, holds a record of 597 wins, the most in the program's history. He will serve as the bench/hitting coach for Team Stripes under manager Johnny Hernandez. The team also includes LaTroy Hawkins as pitching coach, Michael Choice as first base coach, Dave Tollett as third base coach, Butch Chaffin as assistant coach, and Joe McGowan as bullpen catcher.
The annual Stars vs. Stripes series is scheduled from June 29 to July 3 across North Carolina. After Training Camp, featuring top non-draft-eligible collegiate players in the country, Team USA will participate in the USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Championship Series from July 8-13 in Japan. The Stripes staff will lead select players in a Fourth of July matchup against the Appalachian League Select Team in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
