Illinois high jumper Kam Garrett has achieved All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a fourth-place finish, clearing 2.20 meters (7-2 1/2) at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. This marks the first time in 16 years that an Illini men's high jumper has earned such recognition since Greg Shroka in 2009. Garrett's performance also adds to the program's history as its eighth outdoor NCAA First-Team All-America honor in this event.
Garrett concludes his junior season as a first-time All-American. Earlier this year, he secured a silver medal at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships by clearing 2.14 meters (7-0 1/4). His achievements include being a one-time All-American and a three-time Big Ten medalist with two silvers and one bronze in the high jump.
In other events, Lucie Kienast and Melissa Wullschleger completed four events of their heptathlon competition. Wullschleger is currently in seventh place with 3,503 points, highlighted by her fourth-place finish in the shot put at 13.61 meters (44-8). Kienast holds the 13th position with 3,407 points, achieving an eighth-place finish in the shot put at 12.86 meters (42-2 1/4).
Viktor Morozov did not record a mark in today's triple jump competition but finishes his junior year as the Big Ten Outdoor Champion with a jump of 15.63 meters (51-3 1/2). During the indoor season, he earned his first Big Ten medal with a bronze for a triple jump of 15.81 meters (51-10 1/2).
The Illinois men's team concluded their participation ranked 44th out of 72 teams, accumulating a total of six and a half points—five from Garrett's performance and one and a half from Cody Johnston's pole vault on June 11.
The women's team will continue competing tomorrow for the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, starting with the heptathlon resuming at 5:30 p.m., followed by Rose Yeboah participating in the high jump at 7:30 p.m. CT. The events will be broadcast on ESPN2 or can be streamed on ESPN+.
