This change positions Illinois as the fifth Big Ten team to start its season in 2025. Four teams from the conference will play on Thursday night, August 28. Illinois will be the sole Big Ten team playing under the Friday night lights.
Under the leadership of head coach Bret Bielema, who is entering his fifth year, Illinois holds a record of 4-0 in season openers. The Illini secured victories over Nebraska and Wyoming in Bielema's initial seasons and defeated Toledo in 2023. Last season began with a shutout win against Eastern Illinois on a Thursday night, leading to a successful 10-win campaign.
Fans interested in attending can purchase limited season tickets starting Thursday at 9 a.m. CT. Following the Illini ERA reseat process, fewer than 800 sideline season tickets remain available throughout the stadium.
