Champaign Police responded to a shooting incident early Saturday morning, May 17, 2025, in the 1100 block of N. Third Street. Officers arrived at the scene following reports of gunfire and found a 22-year-old man from Urbana with a gunshot wound to his leg. The police, assisted by the Champaign Fire Department, provided medical aid before the man was taken to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The investigation suggests an exchange of gunfire occurred between unidentified individuals who left the area before police arrived. Evidence collected at the scene includes shell casings and damage to two buildings and one vehicle. No other injuries have been reported.

Police are actively seeking witnesses and video footage that could assist in their investigation. Residents or businesses with exterior surveillance cameras are encouraged to contact the police department. As of now, no arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.
