On May 1, 2025, City Manager Joan Walls and Equity and Engagement Director Rachel Joy took part in the 11th Annual Power of the Purse at Pear Tree Estates. This yearly event is organized by the United Way's Women United group and utilizes silent and live auctions to support local initiatives. This year's fundraiser raised over $100,000, demonstrating the community's dedication to mutual welfare.

The funds collected from the event support programs that have a significant impact on the lives of residents. These include essential services such as providing safe emergency shelter for families in crisis, facilitating access to higher education through scholarships, and enhancing student potential through targeted literacy initiatives. This fundraising initiative directly aids in improving the stability, education, and resilience of the community.

The event, therefore, holds a crucial role in channeling community resources towards meaningful contributions that support individuals and families, strengthening the society as a whole.
