Fighting Illini to host Gary Wieneke Memorial at Demirjian Park

The Fighting Illini men's and women's track and field teams are set to host the Gary Wieneke Memorial event. The competition will take place on Friday, May 2, at Demirjian Park in Champaign, Illinois. Scheduled to kick off at 10:30 a.m., the event will include a Senior Day ceremony beginning at 1 p.m. CT.

The women's team includes athletes such as Kennady Anderson, Sophia Beckmon, and Mabry Bruhn, among others. Meanwhile, the men's team will feature athletes like Javaris Ambrose, Joshua Daggett, and Nicolas Dovalovsky.

In a recent event, the Fighting Illini Twilight, several athletes achieved remarkable milestones. Sophia Beckmon recorded a wind-aided 23.06 in the 200 meters, marking the sixth-fastest time in school history. Azariyah Bryant closely followed with a time of 23.22w. Bryant also secured victory in the 100 meters with a time of 11.36, trailed by Asia Thomas who posted the eighth-fastest program time of 11.41. In the hammer throw, Faith Deering reached a distance of 58.95 meters, ranking fifth all-time for the school.

On the men's side, Will Rezny achieved a shot put distance of 18.71 meters, securing the fifth all-time position for the program, with Alex Sohn throwing 17.88 meters, ranking tenth. In the pole vault, Mia Morello cleared 4.25 meters to earn gold, while Cody Johnston achieved 5.33 meters. Sam Poglitsch won the 1500 meters with a time of 4:23.98, Viktor Morozov claimed victory in the long jump with a leap of 7.62 meters, Will Merrick triumphed in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.84, and Stephen Moody won the 1500 meters, clocking in at 3:47.64.
