The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire at a multi-family apartment building located in the 1500 block of Kiler Dr. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at approximately 4:05 p.m. The fire crews successfully extinguished the fire shortly after arrival.
Upon responding to a report by an occupant, firefighters entered the three-story building to investigate the situation. They discovered a small fire in a bathroom on the third floor. The firefighters managed to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher, effectively containing it to the bathroom area.
The fire was determined to be accidental, caused by improperly disposed of smoking materials. No injuries were reported among firefighters or occupants. However, occupants of the affected unit will face displacement as a result of the fire.
