The Fighting Illini men's golf team, ranked 13th nationally, is set to participate in the 2025 Big Ten Men's Golf Championship at Baltimore Country Club from April 25-27. The Illinois team, known as the Orange and Blue, aims to secure its 14th victory in the last 16 league championships, in addition to vying for the program's 21st Big Ten crown.
Baltimore Country Club, founded in 1898 and recognized as one of the top 50 country clubs in the nation, will host the event on its A.W. Tillinghast designed Par 70 Five Farms East Course. This course is highly regarded and has hosted several major events such as the Men's U.S. Open and PGA Championship.
The tournament format includes a 54-hole competition over three days with Friday and Saturday teeing off at 9 a.m. ET/8 a.m. CT, and Sunday beginning at 8 a.m. ET/7 a.m. CT, followed by an awards ceremony. The field comprises 18 Big Ten men's golf programs, with Illinois among the six top-50 ranked teams in attendance.
The Illini lineup features Jackson Buchanan, Max Herendeen, Trey Marrion, Ryan Voois, and Jake Birdwell, with Ethan Wilson as an alternate. Buchanan, playing his fourth conference championship, has a strong track record, including a participation in the Illini's 2023 runner-up team finish.
Under head coach Mike Small, Illinois has won 13 of the last 15 Big Ten Championships. The Big Ten Championship returns to the Baltimore Country Club after hosting back-to-back events in 2017 and 2018, both won by Illinois. ##
Live scoring will be accessible via Clippd Scoreboard, and BTN will cover the final round on Sunday, April 27, at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT. After the championship, Illinois will host one of the six NCAA Regional tournaments in Urbana from May 12-14.
The 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship will occur at the North Course at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, from May 23-28. Illinois looks to make its 16th NCAA Championship appearance in 17 years, maintaining its competitive stance in national collegiate golf.
