Illinois assistant coach Deanna Price has secured a place at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after winning the hammer throw event at the USATF Outdoor National Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Price achieved a distance of 78.53 meters (257-7), earning her the national title and qualification for the international competition scheduled for September 13-21.

This marks Price's third appearance at the World Athletics Championships. She previously competed in Doha, Qatar, in 2019, where she won gold with a throw of 77.54 meters (254-4 3/4). In 2023, she participated in Budapest, Hungary, taking home a bronze medal with a mark of 75.41 meters (247-4 3/4).

"Her throw of 78.53m (257-7) not only earned her a gold medal today, but she punches her ticket to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Sept. 13-21 representing the United States."

"This will be Price's third World Athletics Championships. Her first was 2019 in Doha, Qatar where she walked away the gold medalist with a throw of 77.54m (254-4 3/4) and her second was 2023 in Budapest, Hungary where she earned bronze on a mark of 75.41m (247-4 3/4)."
