Fighting Illini lose Big Ten series finale against Purdue

The Fighting Illini softball team was defeated by Purdue, 7-3, in the concluding game of their Big Ten series at Bittinger Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Saturday.

With this loss, Illinois' season record stands at 18 wins and 23 losses overall and 4-11 in the Big Ten Conference. In contrast, the Boilermakers now hold a season record of 25-17 and an 8-8 record in conference play.

Keirys Click contributed with a strong performance, recording two hits in three at-bats, both doubles. Ella Cushing also had a notable game, finishing 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and hitting a home run in the fifth inning, marking her fifth home run of the season.

Karley Yergler, despite being charged with the loss, achieved five strikeouts, tying her personal best for a single game at Illinois.

The Fighting Illini will next take on DePaul at home. The game is scheduled for Tuesday with the first pitch set for 5 p.m., and it will be available on the B1G+ platform.
