Eddie Simpkins has been appointed as the Director of Offensive Player Personnel for the Illinois football program, as announced by head coach Bret Bielema. Simpkins joins the team from Oklahoma State, where he spent four seasons as the Cowboys' Senior Administrative Support Specialist for Football Recruiting.
"We are excited to bring Eddie into our building," Bielema stated. "We continued to hear great things about him during his time at both Oklahoma State and the Denver Broncos. We look forward to Eddie bringing a new perspective and thoughts into our program."
Simpkins expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying, "Thank you to Coach Bielema and Patrick Embleton for welcoming my family and I into the Illini famILLy. It is a privilege to work for an organization that has established a culture of excellence on and off the field. I am excited to get to work and win ball games."
During his tenure at Oklahoma State, Simpkins was instrumental in supporting football operations and recruiting, contributing to 32 team victories, including two 10-win seasons and bowl victories in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl and 2023 Texas Bowl.
Prior to Oklahoma State, Simpkins was with the Denver Broncos, starting as a scouting intern in 2018 and then advancing to a scouting assistant role from 2019 to 2021.
Simpkins is an alumnus of Oklahoma State University, graduating in 2018 with a degree in economics and a minor in sports management. He also served as a football recruiting assistant during his undergraduate years.
Eddie Simpkins, his wife Hannah, and their son Bennett are now part of the Illinois football community.
