On Thursday, April 10, Police Chief Timothy T. Tyler took part as a panelist in a discussion titled “Empowering Empathy.” The event was organized by the Grainger School of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Chief Tyler was joined by several law enforcement officials from the local area, which included elected officials, University of Illinois Police Department (UIPD) co-responders, and leaders from the University of Illinois Police Training Institute.

The panel's primary focus was on strategies to improve empathy training for law enforcement officers in their community interactions. Attendees also included Director Rachel Joy and Community Relations Manager Jorge Elvir from the Equity and Engagement department. The discussion aimed at enhancing understanding and empathy in police-community relations.
