Illinois made an impressive display against Maryland, taking an 11-0 victory at Illinois Field. This result secured the Fighting Illini's first series sweep of the season. With this win, Illinois baseball improved to 18-11 overall and 7-5 in conference play.

Regan Hall delivered an exceptional performance, pitching 6.1 innings without allowing a run, and improving his record to 3-2. Hall gave up just four hits and one walk while striking out six. Payton Hutchings also contributed, finishing off the last two batters to achieve the first team shutout since April 29, 2023.

The Illini's offense was strong, with Collin Jennings and Jacob Schroeder each driving in three runs. Jennings, Cameron Chee-Aloy, and Vytas Valincius each had two hits, and all nine Illinois starters reached base safely during the game.

The match started aggressively, with the Illini scoring five runs in the first inning. Key plays included RBI doubles by Greg LaChance and Valincius and a three-run double by Schroeder.

Hall maintained the lead, keeping Maryland from scoring despite loading the bases in the sixth inning. The game ended decisively in the seventh with a three-run home run by Jennings.

Next, the Fighting Illini will face Illinois State in Normal, Illinois. The game is scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT.

Game notes show positive statistics for several players, including Jennings, who hit a home run and had three RBIs. The team achieved its third run-rule walk-off home run of the season and out-hit Maryland 9 to 4, while also swiping six bases.

"As a team, we performed well and made smart plays. It was a collective effort on all fronts," an observer noted, underscoring the teamwork that led to the Illini's victory.
