Illinois secured a fourth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships held in Ann Arbor, Michigan, accumulating a team score of 320.950. The competition on April 4 saw the team starting strongly on still rings, with Preston Ngai delivering a notable performance, finishing ninth with a score of 13.550. Vault routines by Dylan Shepard and Amari Sewell yielded matching scores of 13.950, while Garrett Schooley achieved a season-high of 14.700, securing second place overall.
Shepard further excelled on the parallel bars, scoring a career-high 14.050 for fifth place. Ian Sandoval and Will Hauke contributed with scores of 13.750 and 13.450, respectively. On the high bar, the team faced a setback but Ryan Vanichtheeranont managed a score of 13.450, finishing fourth overall.
The team advanced to the floor routine where Schooley stood out once again, securing second place with a 14.200. The final rotation on the pommel horse featured a strong performance by Brandon Dang, who claimed the event title with a score of 14.850, alongside contributions from Farkhadau and Hauke.
The qualifiers for the individual competition include Dang, Hauke, and Farkhadau on the pommel horse; Schooley on floor and vault; Ngai on still rings; Shepard advancing with his parallel bars performance; and Vanichtheeranont on high bar. The individual competitions will continue on April 5 at 6 p.m. CT.
Team scores placed Michigan in the lead with 330.750, followed by Penn State, Nebraska, Illinois, and Ohio State closing the top five.
