Illini track and field teams set for Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville

The Fighting Illini men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Gainesville, Florida for the Pepsi Florida Relays this weekend. Competitions are scheduled to take place at the James G. Pressly Stadium on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5. The field events will begin at 10 a.m., and track events at 11 a.m. on April 4. On April 5, field events will commence at 8 a.m. with track events following at 11 a.m. Central Time.

Eighteen men and eighteen women from the Illini teams are participating. The women's roster includes athletes such as Kennady Anderson, Sophia Beckmon, and Azariyah Bryant. The men's team features participants like Javaris Ambrose, Nicolas Dovalovsky, and Kam Garrett.

At a recent competition, the USF Alumni Invitational on March 22, notable performances were recorded by Will Merrick and Halle Hill, who both secured first place finishes in their respective 1500m races. Merrick finished with a time of 3:44.30, and Hill with 4:20.09. Azariyah Bryant also achieved a first-place finish in the 100m race with a time of 11.32. Nicolas Dovalovsky and Kennady Anderson claimed silver in the 1500m race with times of 3:44.34 and 4:22.54, respectively.

The upcoming relays will provide another platform for the athletes to showcase their talents.
