Illinois swimmer breaks six-year-old school record at CSCAA National Invitational

The Illinois swim team concluded the first day of competition at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships in Ocala, Florida. Kayla Duran set a new school record in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 28.22 seconds, surpassing the previous record held by Gabriele Serniute since February 2019.

Logan Kuehne earned a bronze medal in the 50 butterfly A finals with her program's second-fastest time of 24.04 seconds. Sara Jass also secured a bronze medal in the 200 IM A finals, clocking in at 1:59.46.

The team of Sophia Paduano, Kayla Duran, Logan Kuehne, and Sydney Stoll achieved the program's fourth-fastest time in the 400 medley relay, finishing ninth with a time of 3:40.88.

Sophia Paduano recorded the sixth-fastest time for the school in the 50 backstroke at 25.63 seconds, while Sophia Yousuf posted a seventh-fastest time for Illinois in the 200 IM with a finish of 2:01.61.

Isabella Wilhelm registered the ninth-fastest time for Illinois in the 50 backstroke at 25.94 seconds. The team consisting of Kuehne, Stoll, Molly Yetter, and Wilhelm finished fifth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.15.

In terms of standings after day one, Akron leads with a score of 209.5 points followed by Queens and FIU with scores of 193.5 and 172.5 respectively. Illinois stands sixth with a total score of 153.5 points.

The competition continues tomorrow with preliminaries starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by finals at 5 p.m.
