Champaign County Community Coalition discusses employment services and upcoming events

The Champaign County Community Coalition convened for its monthly meeting on March 12, 2025, at the Holiday Inn Conference Center. The session featured several presentations and updates from various organizations.

The Champaign County Regional Planning Commission reviewed their Employment Services and Job Training programs. These initiatives assist with job searches, resume preparation, and scholarship opportunities. The Commission also discussed key partnerships and the referral process for accessing these services.

The Race Relations Subcommittee announced plans for the third Black Mental Health and Wellness Conference, tentatively set for September 20, 2025, at Parkland College. Further details will be provided later.

Youth Employment Services (YES) shared updates to their program, encouraging employers to hire high school students. They presented success stories of past participants and highlighted employers committed to providing opportunities for YES students.

During the information-sharing segment, several organizations offered collaboration opportunities. The Illinois Attorney General’s Office explained their programs that help protect against scams. CU Trauma and Resilience discussed their upcoming summit titled “Healing Solutions for Healing Communities.”

Strides Shelter informed attendees about an April 1st referendum aimed at securing future funding. The League of Women Voters provided voting process information ahead of the April elections and acknowledged Student Ambassadors assisting high school voter registration.

Lastly, the City of Champaign is compiling a survey as part of efforts to reshape the Downtown plan.
