Nguyen earns second straight Big Ten freshman award

For the second consecutive week, Matthew Vu Nguyen has been recognized as the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference on March 11.

Nguyen's performance for the Illinois team last week was notable. He achieved a career-high score of 14.250 on vault, tying for first place against Penn State, which is ranked sixth. Additionally, Nguyen led his team on parallel bars with a score of 13.750 and completed his day with a 13.350 on high bar.

The Illini have now secured the Freshman of the Week award four times this season. Ian Sandoval earned the honor on February 4 and February 11.

In other Big Ten weekly awards announced on March 11, Yanni Chronopoulos from Nebraska was named Gymnast of the Week, while Taylor Christopulos, also from Nebraska, received Specialist of the Week honors.
