The City of Champaign hosted a quarterly meeting for the State-Designated Cultural District on March 4, 2025. The event brought together staff from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). Tracy Parsons, Community Relations Manager, and Mikal Washington, Community Relations Specialist from the Equity and Engagement Department, attended the meeting.
During the session, updates were provided on upcoming plans for North First Street. Participants also gained insights into events occurring in other districts. The city staff engaged with DCEO representatives to discuss potential funding opportunities and connected with other State-Designated Cultural Districts.
A tour of North First Street was conducted as part of the meeting activities. This allowed city officials to explain why this area was chosen as a designated cultural district.
