Illinois baseball faced a challenging game against No. 15 Texas, concluding the Las Vegas College Baseball Classic with a 15-6 loss. Illinois now holds a record of 6-4, while Texas improves to 9-1.

Nick Groves was notable for Illinois, achieving two hits in three at-bats. Collin Jennings contributed significantly with a home run and three RBIs, marking his first collegiate home run.

Starting pitcher Julius Sanchez did not receive a decision after allowing five runs over four innings and recording four strikeouts. Zach Bates continued his strong relief performance with a scoreless ninth inning.

The game began with both teams scoring in the first inning but remained tied until the fourth when Illinois took a brief lead. Jack Zebig scored on a wild pitch, followed by Drake Westcott's sacrifice fly and Jennings' three-run homer to give Illinois a 6-1 advantage. However, Texas responded robustly with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and nine more in the fifth, eventually sealing their victory with an additional run in the ninth.

Illinois is set to return home to face Eastern Illinois at Illinois Field on Tuesday evening.

Zach Bates maintained his streak without walks or runs allowed through two appearances: "Has three strikeouts compared to no walks through two relief appearances."

The Fighting Illini will look to rebound from this loss as they continue their season back on home turf.
