Illini men's gymnastics triumphs over Army and Greenville in hometown tri-meet

Fighting Illini Men's Gymnastics team secured a victory at the tri-meet held on March 1 at Huff Hall, Champaign, Illinois. The team scored 316.700, surpassing Greenville's 309.250 and Army's 307.500.

Vahe Petrosyan made an impressive debut in his first NCAA floor performance with a score of 13.800, contributing to the team's leading score of 54.250 in the first rotation. The Illini were ranked fourth nationally on floor prior to this meet.

Brandon Dang, a new member of the USA Senior National Team, won the pommel horse event with a score of 14.700. Junior Connor Micklos followed closely with a score of 13.450.

Preston Ngai led on still rings with a score of 13.800, maintaining the team's lead as they progressed into the final events.

In vault, Amari Sewell achieved the top score for the Illini with a 14.350, while Ngai and Garrett Schooley both scored 14.150.

Matthew Vu Nguyen excelled on parallel bars with a career-high score of 14.050, placing first overall in that event.

Ryan Vanichtheeranont concluded the competition by scoring 13.900 on high bar, securing the win for Illinois alongside Petrosyan who scored 13.600.

"There was a lot to celebrate today," stated head coach Daniel Ribeiro. "Amari really stood out... Vahe stepped up big time and had a fantastic day." He noted that improvements are needed on still rings before their next meet against Penn State on March 8 at Huff Hall during Senior Night.
