Brandon Dang has been named the Big Ten's Specialist of the Week for the third time this season, according to a Feb. 25 announcement by the conference. This marks the fifth such recognition in his career.
Dang's performance at the Winter Cup began on Feb. 21 with a pommel horse score of 14.000, placing him third and allowing him to advance to the second day of competition. On Day 2, during the fifth rotation, he scored 14.350 on pommels, bringing his two-day total to 28.350 and securing a gold medal win at the event.
In addition to his success at the Winter Cup, Dang was selected for the USA Gymnastics Senior National Team and will participate in three international events as part of the FIG World Cup Series. He is set to compete in Baku, Azerbaijan (March 6-9), Antalya, Turkey (March 20-23), and Cairo, Egypt (April 25-28).
The Big Ten Weekly Awards announced on Feb. 25 also recognized Fred Richards from Michigan as Gymnast of the Week and David Ramirez from Ohio State as Freshman of the Week.
