Zheng leads Illinois after first day at The Chevron Collegiate

Fighting Illini women's golf team is tied for 10th place after the first two rounds of The Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston. The team posted a total score of 572 (-4), with a notable improvement in the second round, where they shot 281 (-7). This performance ranks as one of the top ten lowest round scores in program history.

Victoria Zheng leads Illinois, finishing tied for 15th after rounds of 72 (E) and 68 (-4). Zheng's performance included four birdies and an eagle on No. 8 during the second round. Her average score on par-5s was among the best in the field.

Brielle Mapanao recovered from an opening round of 74 (+2) with a strong second-round performance, scoring a 69 (-3) to tie for 30th place. She recorded five birdies during her final holes.

Yurang Li also finished tied for 30th with rounds of 71 (-1) and 72 (E), achieving one of the highest numbers of pars among competitors. Lexanne Halama and Anna Ritter ended their day tied for 49th and tied for 56th, respectively.

Texas A&M leads the tournament at 23-under (553), while Vanessa Borovilos from Texas A&M holds the individual lead at 10-under (134).

The Fighting Illini will continue play tomorrow morning with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:00 a.m. CT.
