Illinois relay team sets new school record at Big Ten Championships

The Illinois swim and dive team participated in the second day of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. The highlight of the day was the performance of the 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Sydney Stoll, Logan Kuehne, Isabella Wilhelm, and Laurel Bludgen. They set a new school record with a time of 1:30.91, finishing in 11th place.

Sara Jass qualified for the C finals in the 200 IM with what was then the third-best time in program history at 1:59.08. In the finals that evening, she improved her time to 1:58.78, marking it as the second-fastest time in program history and an NCAA B Cut time.

In other events, Sydney Stoll swam the program's second-fastest 50 freestyle during time trials with a time of 22.77 seconds. Adelaide Reaser recorded a personal best and entered the program's top ten list for the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.80.

The diving competition saw Bethany Mercer leading her team on one-meter boards by placing 32nd with a score of 236.60. Matilda Garcia followed closely behind in 33rd place with a score of 235.05.

After two days of competition, Illinois is positioned in 13th place with a total score of 105 points.

The current standings are led by Ohio State with a score of 480 points, followed by Michigan and Indiana holding second and third places respectively.

Looking ahead, Illinois will continue their participation tomorrow as they enter day three of competition starting at 9 a.m., with finals scheduled for later at 4 p.m. CT.
