Ian Sandoval has been recognized as the CGA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, according to an announcement by the College Gymnastics Association on February 12. Sandoval achieved two career highs in pommel horse and high bar, securing the all-around title at a competition against then-ranked No. 7 Michigan. His performance elevated him to the top position nationally in the all-around category.
Hailing from Frisco, Texas, Sandoval has collected six weekly awards and five event titles across four competitions so far. He is set to compete next at the Winter Cup from February 21-23. Following that, his team will face Army and Greenville at Huff Hall on March 1 at 1 p.m. CT.
In other awards announced by the College Gymnastics Association for February 12, Asher Hong from Stanford was named Gymnast of the Week, while Josh Karnes from Penn State received Specialist of the Week honors.
