Sydney Brown, a former Illini All-American, has achieved the status of Super Bowl champion. Brown played a key role in helping the Philadelphia Eagles secure a 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, held in New Orleans.
In the championship game, Brown participated in 18 snaps, contributing on special teams and defense. Throughout Philadelphia's playoff journey to the Super Bowl, he recorded a tackle in each of their three victories.
Brown's performance this season was notable as he returned from a knee injury that sidelined him last year. Over 11 regular-season games, he accumulated seven tackles, one interception, two passes defended, and one forced fumble. In his two-year NFL career so far, Brown has achieved 52 tackles, two interceptions, five passes defended, and two forced fumbles. Last season saw him play 14 games with six starts before an ACL tear ended his participation prematurely.
Before joining the NFL ranks as a third-round draft pick by Philadelphia in 2023, Brown had an impressive collegiate career at Illinois. He started 50 games over five seasons and amassed 319 tackles along with other defensive achievements.
The tradition of Illini players winning Super Bowl rings continues with Brown's recent success marking three consecutive seasons for such an achievement. This ties for the second-longest streak in program history (8 seasons from 2003-2010).
