Former Illinois football player Sydney Brown is set to compete in Super Bowl LIX this Sunday. Brown will join the Philadelphia Eagles as they face the Kansas City Chiefs at 5:30 p.m. CT in New Orleans.
In the AFC Championship game, Brown contributed by playing 26 snaps and making one tackle, aiding the Eagles in their 55-23 victory over the Washington Commanders. Throughout Philadelphia's playoff run, Brown has been active on special teams with a tackle recorded in each of their three wins.
This season, after recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him last year, Brown accumulated seven tackles, one interception, two passes defended, and one forced fumble across 11 regular-season games. In his two-year NFL career so far, he has achieved 52 tackles, two interceptions, five passes defended, and two forced fumbles. Last season saw him participate in 14 games with six starts before an ACL tear ended his season prematurely.
Brown's college career was notable as well; he was named a 2022 All-American at Illinois prior to being drafted by Philadelphia in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. During his time at Illinois, he started 50 games over five seasons and registered impressive stats including 319 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 10 interceptions, 26 passes defended, and four forced fumbles.
