The Fighting Illini men's and women's track and field teams are preparing to host the Fighting Illini Challenge and Combined Events on Friday and Saturday, January 24-25. The event will take place at the UI Armory in Champaign, Illinois. It will feature athletes from ten teams, including Arkansas State, Eastern Illinois, Little Rock, London Western Track & Field Club, Nike/NYAC, Purdue, Southern Illinois, Western Ontario, and Wisconsin.
At a recent competition on January 18 at the Hoosier Horsepower Classic, Rose Yeboah set a new school record in the high jump by clearing 1.91 meters (6-3 1/4), which also tied for the national-leading mark for the 2025 season.
Illinois secured eight victories last weekend. Tyler Sudduth won both the weight throw with a distance of 22.15 meters (72-8) and shot put with a throw of 19.47 meters (63-10 1/2). Tori Thomas claimed first place in pole vaulting at 4.40 meters (14-5 1/4). Other winners included Trey Sato in the mile run (4:08.75), Dewayne Johnson in the 60m hurdles (7.81), Halle Hill in the 800m race (2:08.23), Will Merrick in the men's 3000m run (8:10.50), and Kennady Anderson in the women's 3000m run (9:37.90).
This weekend's event will see three athletes making their debut for Illinois: Ji'eem Bullock will compete in men's high jump; Malik Allen will participate in men's triple jump; Rafael Raap is set to compete in heptathlon events; Melissa Wullschleger and Lucie Kienast are scheduled to compete in pentathlon events.
