The Illinois women's gymnastics team is preparing for their Big Ten home opener against Nebraska. The match will take place at Huff Hall in Champaign, Illinois, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 1 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the event live on B1G+ or follow the live stats through StatBroadcast.

Nebraska began its season with two quad meets. They finished fourth at the American Gold Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Classic in Nashville and later secured a victory over Northern Illinois while facing defeats against Florida and Michigan State.

In their recent outing, Illinois claimed three event titles during the Ball State Quad meet. Makayla Green tied her career-high on bars with a score of 9.800 to win the event title. Amelia Knight excelled on beam with a score of 9.850, and Chloe Cho topped the vault leaderboard with a similar score of 9.850.

Freshman Chloe Cho and junior Arielle Ward have been recognized as gymnasts to watch in the Big Ten preseason list. Cho was previously a Level 10 state champion and competed in the 2024 U.S. Championships where she achieved personal bests in all-around competition. Ward is entering her third season after competing in all meets last year and earning third place on vault at the Big Ten Championships.

Amelia Knight returns for an additional year after four years with Illinois gymnastics team. She made significant contributions since her freshman year and has earned Academic All-Big Ten honors twice along with being named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

Illinois head coach Nadalie Walsh holds a Division I career record of 154-185 over her 21 seasons, including an impressive record of 90-59 during her eight seasons at Illinois.
