Director of Illinois track, field, and cross country Petros Kyprianou has announced the signing of Polish distance runner Oliwia Belczew. The announcement was made on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Belczew is expected to join the University of Illinois' Orange and Blue team at the start of the 2026 track and field season.

Belczew comes from Leszczyny, Poland. As a junior in high school, she has achieved personal bests of 2:06.93 in the 800 meters and 4:31.38 in the 1500 meters. Recently, she secured victory at her regional cross country championships on Saturday, November 16.

Kyprianou noted that Belczew's performance in the 800 meters would place her among the top five runners in that category if she were competing in the United States.
