The Illinois football team has secured the 23rd position in this week's College Football Playoff (CFP) Top 25 rankings. This information was disclosed by the CFP committee on Tuesday. The Fighting Illini have advanced two positions from their previous rank of 25.

Currently holding an 8-3 overall record and a 5-3 standing in the Big Ten, Illinois appears in the CFP Top 25 for the second week running and for the fourth time in its history. In the past, Illinois featured twice in these rankings during the 2022 season, concluding that year with an 8-4 record and earning a spot in the ReliaQuest Bowl held in Tampa.

In their recent game against Rutgers, Illinois claimed victory with a score of 38-31. A pivotal moment came when Pat Bryant received a decisive 40-yard touchdown pass from Luke Altmyer on a crucial fourth-and-13 play with only four seconds left on the clock, marking their fourth successful comeback win in the final quarter this season.

Illinois will wrap up its regular season on Saturday with a match against Northwestern at Wrigley Field. The game is set to begin at 11 a.m. Central Time and will be broadcasted on Big Ten Network.
