Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer has been recognized for his performance in the Fighting Illini's recent victory over Rutgers. Altmyer was named to both the Manning Award's Stars of the Week and the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 lists. This marks the third time this season that Altmyer has received accolades from these awards, having previously been acknowledged following Illinois' wins against Nebraska and Purdue.
The Davey O'Brien Award will announce its National QB of the Week on Tuesday at 9 a.m. CT.
In a remarkable display, Altmyer secured a 38-31 win for then-#24 Illinois with a decisive 40-yard touchdown pass to Pat Bryant with only four seconds remaining in the game. This marked his third game-winning touchdown pass in either the final minute or overtime this season, a record unmatched nationwide.
Altmyer's efforts included throwing for 151 yards in the fourth quarter alone and adding 74 rushing yards throughout the game, which featured a notable 30-yard touchdown run in the final quarter.
Following their victory, Altmyer and Illinois have moved up to #22 in this week's AP Top 25 rankings. The Fighting Illini are set to conclude their regular season against Northwestern on Saturday in Chicago at 11 a.m. CT, broadcasted on Big Ten Network.
