The Illinois Fighting Illini women's basketball team is set to face Marquette on Sunday night at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois. The game will be broadcasted nationally on Big Ten Network at 7 p.m. CT. This marks the first of eight regular-season games for Illinois during the 2024-25 campaign that will be televised.

Marquette, under new head coach Cara Consuegra, comes into the game after a 57-50 loss to UCF in their season opener. The Golden Eagles return five letterwinners from last year's NCAA Tournament team and have added six new players through transfers.

Illinois started their season with an impressive win over No. 19 Florida State, defeating them 83-74 at home. Notable performances included Makira Cook and Adalia McKenzie each scoring 20 points, with Kendall Bostic contributing 18 points and reaching a career milestone of 1,000 rebounds.

Head Coach Shauna Green has led Illinois to notable achievements since her tenure began, including winning the inaugural WBIT title in April against Villanova. Recently, Green received a two-year contract extension from Illinois Director of Athletics Josh Whitman, which could extend her stay through the 2029-30 season based on performance criteria.

The Illini's success has been supported by significant fan attendance at home games. Their recent foreign tour to Italy and Greece further provided opportunities for team development through exhibition matches and cultural experiences.

Illinois continues to make strides both domestically and internationally with former players joining professional leagues across different continents.
