The Illinois volleyball team secured a notable victory against the 20th-ranked USC in a five-set match at Huff Hall. This win brings the Fighting Illini's record to 16-7 for the season, matching USC's record, with both teams holding an 8-5 mark in their respective leagues.

Raina Terry achieved a significant milestone by recording her 2,000th career kill during the third set and concluded the match with 18 kills. This achievement marks a first in the program's history. Averie Hernandez and Ashlyn Philpot also contributed significantly, with Hernandez logging 16 kills and Philpot achieving a career-high of 17 kills.

The match began with USC taking an early lead, but Illinois responded effectively. The Trojans maintained control in the first set, winning it 25-21. In the second set, Illinois overcame an early deficit to claim a narrow victory at 29-27 after extra points.

USC initially led in the third set before Illinois took control, ultimately winning it 25-23 thanks to crucial plays from Terry and Philpot. The fourth set saw USC dominate with an eight-point run that resulted in a 25-17 win for them.

In the decisive fifth set, Illinois started strong and managed to maintain their advantage despite pressure from USC. An error by USC gave Illinois match point, which was sealed by Philpot's final kill for a 15-12 victory.

Illinois will next face Ohio State on Saturday night as they conclude their three-match homestand.
